**Travel**

Delays to services between Motherwell and Dalmuir

Due to the fire brigade dealing with an incident near the railway yesterday between Hyndland and Dalmuir disruption is expected until the end of the day on 09/05/20.

Train services between Motherwell and Dalmuir may be delayed by up to 5 minutes.

We had a fire near the railway in the Yoker area on Tuesday 5th May which has destroyed a signalling cabinet. Our staff continue to work to replace the signalling equipment to allow us to operate our trains and early indications from staff on site is for normal signalling for start of service on Sunday 10th May, this means we have had to alter the following services until end of service on Saturday 9th May. -

* Services to/from Helensburgh will be diverted via Singer and this should only result in platform changes at Dalmuir so please check the Information Screens at Dalmuir to ensure you are on the correct platform for your train. Services from Helensburgh to Edinburgh will depart from platform 2 at Dalmuir. Services from Edinburgh to Helensburgh will depart from platform 1 at Dalmuir.

* Our Springburn - Dumbarton Central trains will only run between Springburn and Garscadden (calling stations) in both directions.

* Delays up to approx 5 minutes may occur on our Motherwell to Dalmuir & Dalmuir to Whifflet train services.

* Balloch - Airdrie trains will call additionally at Bowling and Kilpatrick in both directions.

* If you are a key worker please use the help point for further information

* If your journey is not essential defer travel until further notice.

Train services between Springburn and Dumbarton Central will be terminated at and started back from Garscadden.

Today in 1947 John Reid, Scottish Labour politician, was born.
Elected MP for Hamilton North and Bellshill in 1997, Reid was Scottish Secretary from 1999 to 2001, and Northern Ireland Secretary from 2001 to 2002 . He was the first Roman Catholic to hold the post. Reid is currently the chairman of Celtic Football Club.

On 8 May 1945, V.E.(Victory in Europe) day marked the end of World War II in Europe. The Allies overran Germany from the west during April 1945 as Russian forces advanced from the east. On April 25, American and Soviet forces met at the Elbe River. Five days later, Hitler committed suicide in his Berlin bunker. At 2:41 a.m. on May 7, General Jodl signed for the unconditional surrender of German forces on all fronts, which was to take effect on May 8 at 11:01 p.m. Over 50,000 Scottish servicemen lost their lives during the conflict.
