TitleShould the River Clyde and street names named after people with links to slavery be changed?

The BLM movement have named the Lord Clyde statue in George Square as one of 60 statues in the UK which should be removed due to his links with slavery. They have also demanded that street names be changed. This would affect streets such as Buchanan Street as well as the name of the Subway station, Buchanan Galleries and then you have the River Clyde and everything named after that including Clydebank, many other street names and hundreds of businesses. Do we think that everything should be renamed to something else?

It’s a very difficult decision to make. On paper it seems that it’s the right thing to do but it’s not just a matter of taking down a street sign and changing for something else. It’s bound to have massive repercussions all over. So what should Glasgow City Council do, and even then, who would have the authority to change the name of the river if this was decided?
