TitleWhat's up with the Milngavie cyclepath?

From Waitrose to Hillfoot there's a segregated cycle path, which I've used a couple of times in each direction. It looks like the kind of thing that everyone talks about when cycling infrastructure comes up, keeps the traffic away from the bikes and keeps the bikes away from the traffic, what's not to like?

I'm usually not a fan of bike paths, because they're generally not particularly well designed; make you stop and start past junctions while on the road you would just keep going, so a fair bit slower; and often they only really last for 30 seconds and then you're spat back onto the road again (Berkeley Street westbound is an example of this). And when you're not in the bike lane drivers can open their windows and chastise you for not being in the bike lane (Berkeley Street again, even when I'd generally be going 25ish mph) even though it's not compulsory. The Milngavie path seems to last for a mile or so, which is huge for urban cycling infrastructure.

But when I googled it, it turns out it caused a stooshie second only to when Lidl announced they were moving to Giffnock, and the extension to Bearsden got cancelled. What's the deal?
