Whilst many places will be dry or see little rain, thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in a few places. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads. There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost


**Travel**

Due to a landslip between Glenfinnan and Lochailort the line is blocked. Disruption is expected until 23:59 05/07.

Train services between Queen Street and Mallaig will be terminated at Fort William. All stations between Fort William and Mallaig will not be served.

Option 1 - Check if a rail journey is currently possible..

* Use the National Rail Enquiries real-time journey planner to check if you can continue your journey by rail.

* If you have had to drive to another station your ticket will be valid to collect your car on your return journey. Speak to a member of staff to validate your ticket.

Option 2 - Local Buses..

* Currently, we have not arranged for your rail tickets to be accepted on local bus routes as yet. We will monitor this situation as the incident develops.

Option 3 - Rail Replacement Transport..

If you are a Key worker affected by this disruption, please contact us by using the station help point or via twitter for further information.

Option 4 - Consider travelling later..

You might wish to consider postponing your journey until our service's return to normal.

* Engineering staff have identified 200m of damage to the track.

* The cause of the damage has been confirmed as a watercourse that has burst its banks.

* Our staff require further examination of the area and an estimate for repairs to be carried out and the line to reopen will be given as soon as possible but early indications suggest that the line could remain closed for at least for number of weeks.

The following service alterations will apply until further notice:

* Queen Street to Mallaig services will terminate and start back from Fort William

**Today in Scottish History**

On this day in 1695 the company which undertook the Darien Scheme was formed.
The company came to ruin five years later through English obstruction, Spanish hostility and Scottish mismanagement. The image is of Darien House in Bristo Street in Edinburgh. Originally built as the headquarters for the ill-fated Company, it later became a lunatic asylum for paupers in the nearby workhouse.

26 June 1824 saw the birth of William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, eminent Scottish physicist. He devised the Kelvin, or Absolute, scale of temperature. Thomson brought together disparate areas of physics - heat, thermodynamics, mechanics, hydrodynamics, magnetism, and electricity - and thus played a principal role in the final synthes
