TitleMince and tatties

My partner grew up eating this and mjsses it so much, as his mother died 3 years ago and I haven't been able to cook it for him since.

I really want to cook it properly for him but I don't know what a traditional recipe for it would consist of. I've searched for it on Google, but I don't know what the mince should be like. We had cottage pie growing up but I don't know if that's what the mince should be like. He is no help whatsoever regarding the ingredients of how his mum made it, and she didn't leave any recipe cards for him. He just says it's mince and potatoes.

Does anyone know the "normal" way to do it? He'd hate it if I did some fancy molecular gastronomy variation, and I just want him to be able to revisit his childhood and think of his mum and dad.

Cheers!
