TitleNeed advice: what to do with an uncontactable relative?

This might not be the correct sub (Reddit has so many useful subs but not sure how to find them).

I’m pretty worried as I haven’t been able to contact my father for a few days (although I haven’t heard from him since 5th January I haven’t attempted contact until the last 3 days).

We have an awful relationship as he is definitely an alcoholic and very likely has some mental health issues. This has been an ongoing issue for years, and unfortunately you can’t help someone who doesn’t want it and especially if they don’t remember/absorb important conversations.

He lives alone and recently retired (he’s 60). Due to being emotionally abuse plus all the other fucked up things that come with alcoholism, my brother and I have kept him at arms length.

My brother wrote him and letter last week saying he has to change or he would cut him out his life, I feel the same way. This might sound harsh but the ongoing struggle has effected us both in a lot of ways.

Ok so, we’ve been trying to call him for a few days, and I drove by his house tonight. The hall light was on but I didn’t have the balls to ring the door bell.

Basically what I’m asking is, if I show up tomorrow and don’t get a response, what the fuck do I do? I don’t know if it’s ridiculous to call the police as he might just be ignoring us. I’m shitting myself imagining finding him dead...

Any help is appreciated or if there’s a sub to go to that would help.

Thanks :/
