Body	[This Friday \(14th\), from 2pm, free ice cream will be handed out at the junction of Calder Street and Pollokshaws Road, outside the offices of 1st Lets, to protest against the rogue landlords and dodgy letting agents that contribute to poor quality and dangerous housing across the city.](https://preview.redd.it/3gkuzbhw2ky61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddbff2004493ffce81d379e4cf2d64e3754971e9) Hi everyone, basically me and my wife moved to the Southside about 3 and a half years ago, and for the last 2 and a bit years have suffered a lot of internal damage to our flat - constantly leaking ceilings, black mould everywhere, damp across multiple rooms etc. Throughout the period that this has been occurring, and despite endless emails and phone calls, the landlord and letting agents (1st Lets) would not arrange for repairs to be done. Now, with these repairs still outstanding, we are being evicted because the landlord has decided to sell. As part of fighting this eviction, we joined a tenants' union called Living Rent, which really brought home to us how common our situation is. This isn't a case of bad luck, it is the byproduct of a systemic approach to repairs, maintenance and eviction that preys on those with the fewest resources to resist (to say nothing of those suffering under unregistered, slum landlords!). In the process, we also made contact with numerous others who had had terrible experiences with 1st Lets, including the people who used to live in our flat, and had similar issues stretching back years. Letting agents such as these rely on the fact that individuals never act collectively and more often than not give up and move on because it isn't worth the hassle of fighting or they don't have the tools to do so. On Friday, we will be outside 1st Lets' office (junction of Calder Street and Pollokshaws Road), from 2pm, handing out homemade Eviction Ice Cream in delicious flavours such as Leaking Ceiling, Damp Wall, and Black Mould (don't worry, my wife is an artist who makes crazy ice cream all the time, they will taste delicious). We will also be sharing some of the testimonies we have heard from others in similar or worse situations to ourselves. Please come along if you're free to show support and enjoy a cone! Living Rent are also still collecting (anonymous) testimonies to be used to hold 1st Lets to account.
