| Body | The people above me have started having what I presume is their grandchild to visit for about a week at a time, roughly once a month since the beginning of the year. The kid is maybe 9-10 years old, always arrives in the middle of the night, makes a huge screaming racket in the stairwell, and proceeds to run/ jump/ stomp back and forth across the entire length of their flat - all day and all night. I was up till 2.30am last night (wearing earplugs) not able to sleep with the noise of it. There's a lot of screaming all day and night as well.
I work from home and during the day I'm delivering training over zoom, and this constant stomping is hugely disruptive to my job and the people I work with. On one occasion I did go up to speak to them about this and let them know it was an issue, but it's not as easy as getting the kid to calm down clearly. I don't know them very well and they're very stand offish, they rarely answer the door when I've got cause to knock (giving packages, talking about factoring stuff etc) so face to face communication isn't easy. I do have an email contact for them though. Is it appropriate to email them? What would be the right thing to ask? Obviously it's a sensitive situation, and I feel for them being up all night with the noise and disruption. But at the end of the day they share a building with other people, and its having a big impact on sleep, work, and our general happiness in a flat which we are not long moved into. |
