Title	Council Tax in Arrears even though I pay with direct debit?

Body	I found a letter under the cupboard today saying my council tax account is arrears by £15, this is puzzling because I thought the point of direct debit was to automate it so I wouldn't need to worry about this type of thing. Anyway, I found the letter late and I'm clearly late for payment, what's the best way to solve this on the weekend? I'd like to double-check if I am actually in arrears before paying it you know.
