TitleWhat’s up with the Flat Market?

I'm looking for a flat as I'm relocating to Glasgow, and the current climate of the market is insane. When I contact agents about a listing that was put up only a few hours ago, I'm told they're no longer taking viewings because of such high demand (I was once quoted over 40 people had called to enquire about a property listed that same day). And when against the odds I manage to put an offer in, they go with one of many other applicants. I have even resorted to offering 3 months of initial rent up-front, but still no luck. My budget is 800-1000pcm for a 1 bed, and am looking mostly central and in merchant city. Fortunately, I do not need to relocate until the end of September at the latest.

Does anybody know why the demand outweighs the supply by such a large scale? Surely this can't be down solely to Students. Do you think the situation will improve?

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to move to Glasgow (if I ever manage to get a place lol).
