| Body | Friend of mine is addicted to heroin and benzodiazepam and has been going to addiction clinic for several months now. He is on a replacement drug for heroin + tapering off diazepam. He has also received an official diagnosis of autism.
I've agreed to let him stay at my place because he has a crazy and uncertain/unsafe home life. His extended family are unable to or refuse to help.
My questions are:
He is on Universal Credit as his only source of income. If he leaves his current home and moves in with me, how will this affect his UC? Will he need a new evaluation based on my household income?
I live alone and receive the 25% ctax discount. If we go to Glasgow council and tell them that my friend is staying with me as he was on the verge of homelessness, will I lose this discount?
If my landlord found out that another person has moved in without his knowledge, then what would happen? Would he have rights to evict me or increase rent etc? I'm not subletting, if anything I'll be losing money when he moves in. Will the council contact my landlord about this if we start the process or can it be kept secret?
My friend isn't literally living on the street but he doesnt have permanent housing and is sharing a 1 bed flat with me and sleeping on a living room couch. Does that qualify him as homeless?
And lastly how long does it take for someone to be housed? Obviously its not an ideal living situation so I just want a timeframe to know how long he will be staying with me. I know there are shelters and hostels etc but with his drug and mental health problems want to avoid going down that route.
PS: He is in his 20s and degree educated. No criminal history, lot of potential to make something of himself in the future.
