TitleBuying flat experiences

Anyone else finding a flat/house search so bizarre at the moment, loads of people piling on top of the same closing date and then having to pull some arbitrary figure from the air to come to an offer, only to find places going for way more?? Last time I was second place in the bidding war the winning offer was 18k over mine (I just checked on land registry). And when you look at the previously sold prices, it's really hard to understand how a flat can rise so much (like 50k) in value in a mere matter of years.

TDLR I REALLY wish I had bought last year or pre-covid.
