TitleMoving from US to Glasgow with a cat

Does anyone have recent experience moving with a cat from US to Glasgow? So far, what I've researched indicates it's gonna be expensive and difficult. Apparently cats are not allowed in the cabin for flights into the UK, so she would need to fly in the hold. I contacted British Airways transport service IAG, and they said they could get her to Heathrow, but not to Glasgow as "Currently pets are not allowed on short haul flights until further notice due to staffing issues at London Heathrow Animal Reception Centre (HARC)." Full service transport companies are quoting 4K to 5K USD, but that seems to mean they handle some of the paperwork, but she would still be transported with the cargo in the hold. I've also read about flying her in the cabin with me either to Paris or Amsterdam and then somehow going overland from there to Glasgow. Anybody know someone who has done this or have advice, links, or other ideas? Or maybe I should post this elsewhere?
