TitleDoes anyone feel like the media coverage of the Euro 2022 is over the top for the sport as it stands?

I enjoyed watching the final yesterday. It seems to have inspired a lot of people, and it was an enjoyable game to watch. I'd certainly like to watch another big women's tournament in the future.

However does anyone feel like the media coverage has been kinda over the top for what stage the sport is at the moment? I was reading that Iceland, Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Scotland, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, didn't even join the tournament until the past 10 years. In fact the last 6 I mentioned only joined in the previous tournament in 2017 or thereabouts.

I also looked up average attendances. It's great that there were record breaking crowds this time round. But the average attendance in 2013 was 8.6k per match; 2017 was just under 8k; 2022 was 18.5k.

This years attendance was an outlier compared to every single year since the 80s. Even so, the record breaking numbers don't even reach the average attendance of say, the EFL Championship.

BBC News has a front page spread 24 hours later.

I think the final and winning sparked some inspiration and hope for the future, but the reality is that the popularity of the women's game is still pretty low.

What do you all think?
