TitleBid to destroy historic 1840s warehouse

Some of you guys might already be aware that the landlord who currently owns the pretty old 1840s warehouse on Oswald Street has launched a planning bid to demolish it and build a new hotel. But maybe not, because I don't think it's had much press attention.

The planning application to demolish the Victorian warehouse comes after the landlord deliberately removed the glass window panes to let the rain in, and is now claiming that the historic building is too water damaged to preserve and must be destroyed (a claim which seems to be a strategically contrived exaggeration of the truth)– so that they can make a nice tidy profit from developing the city centre site.

It's an all too familiar story in Glasgow.

Yet another private landlord deliberately vandalising our cultural history and damaging our city's beautiful architecture in pursuit of their own greed. This landlord should be prosecuted for neglect, not rewarded with planning permission to get rich building yet another glass and metal monstrosity in the heart of the Central Conservation Area!

Objections to the application are open until midnight tomorrow and Labour MSP Paul Sweeney has drafted a template letter that can be emailed to the council – his website has full instructions on how to formally object.
