The problem is no solution I put forward would be considered good enough. Councils should be putting a mandatory minimum portion of income into proactive infrastructure changes.

* "But it costs money!" - So does everything else. Drivers pay road tax, it should be going exclusively towards road infrastructure. If it's being siphoned off to pay for schools then why isn't the appropriate taxation there covering its costs?

* "But the local council's budget is already tight!" - Then they need to do better, take a pay cut, or get out of the way to let someone competent take over.

* "But not everyone wants it!" - Not everyone wants schools or pubs near their homes but they seem to get fuck all say in that, why is this any different?


There will always, always be a "but" to counter any proposed solution.
