Or they couldn't simply have been frank about the relationship?
* "My husband is bidding, I am recusing myself...."
* "My wife is a councillor, she should have no input...."
* "Come see my husband's new exhibition...."
Not terribly difficult one would have thought. There's may well be nothing untoward but given the lack of trust in politicians, it does not look good at all.
