I don't think politicians really get the level of distrust the public has towards them. It is not enough just to follow any rules(because the perception at least is that those rules are often inadequate), it is not enough to appear to be above reproach, they must prove time and time again that there is no corruption and that there is no *possibility* of corruption.
In this case that could well have meant her husband's company simply not bidding. And if that bid had gone ahead, they should have been totally up-front about their relationship to get ahead of stories just like this.
This isn't an SNP problem, this is the consequence of the complete failure of trust between the public and all politicians. |
