Yes, there are still some dodgy areas but a lot of them have lingering reputations from the 60s-80s and are nowhere near as bad. I had to find a flat in a hurry and ended up in Maryhill 15 years ago, thought it looked like crap and was always worried about bad things happening. Not had a single problem the whole time I have lived there aside from the odd noisy neighbour.

I wouldn't recommend Shawlands though, it's relatively cheap and has good transport links, but it does have a higher crime rate than surrounding areas (thankfully this is getting better) and the mobile signal is very patchy on some networks.
