As has been mentioned, the Griphouse is good. There's some more traditional Japanese martial arts clubs around like Aikido & Karate. Some of these incorporate weapons training (I don't _think_ the Grip does that, but it's been a while since I was there).
Don't be afraid to try a few different clubs/classes. Most will have beginners classes or "come and try" sessions. Heck, just watch a class.
In all cases, look for a club with basics like affiliation to governing bodies, insurance, qualified coaches etc. "Shuggie's Pain Train" in the derelict Nissen hut probably isn't ideal.... |
