The short version: SNP were originally going ahead with reforms to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) but high profile members like Joanna Cherry & Joan McAlpine pushed back hard, with unfounded claims of it putting CIS women in danger. The party caved and shelved the reforms.

Feminist and LGBT groups have heavily criticised the use of women's issues to suppress trans people, comparing it to misinformation on gay people in the 20th century.

These high profile figures now continuously push narratives about the dangers of trans people without any form of reprise from the party, Neal Hanvey, who was eventually booted for anti-antisemitism had actually been tweeting implying trans women to be paedophiles, this was not deemed an issue by the party.
