I second checking out Luss. The Lomond shores bit (where the aquarium is) is OK, with shops etc. But the view of the Loch isn't great. To me it always feels commercialised.

There are buses though that then go up the side of Loch Lomond, past Duck Bay and Luss and onwards. The further north you go, the more spectacular the views get.

If you want somewhere historic and quirky to eat/stay there is the Drovers Inn. It's a bit dated now, but is still popular for the west Highland way.
