It is stupid and outdated but unless you just want to ban all parades and marches it's very tricky to target them or the republicans or whoever else specifically. If they openly say we want a "we hate cafflicks" march then it's simple you can ban that but if they want a march to celebrate a victory in some battle they think is important...how's that different from a remembrance day thing? (legally and on paper, we know the differences in reality but it's difficult to ban based on that)
I'd love to see all this shit disappear but as long as you're allowing pride and independence and climate and rememberance and whatever other people to march it's very tricky to ban the sectarians in a fair, legal manner.
Take Germany as another example. They've got actual laws against nazis and yet neo-nazis get their right to march, protest etc very often. They're much smaller groups and usually get drowned out by a counter protest but much like our problem their scumbags dress up their hate as something else on the surface even though everyone knows better and it's difficult to go after them legally because of it. |
