The yard is a disgrace and isn't even remotely fit for purpose.
The best thing they could do (or should have done in the first place) is go back to Remontowa and order 3 copies of the Finlaggan with modifications for specific routes and lessons learned after running the Finlaggan for a few years now. Instead of the short lived and hair-brained blended fuel system, set them up for running in MGO with the possibility of converting to dual LNG/MGO operations in the future.
The problem now is that the government have found themselves in possession of a white elephant. They own a ship yard but that yard is incapable of building ships. That crook McColl has got all he can from the deal, feathered his own nest and left behind two rusting hulks and no means of finishing them. |
