Comment | As others have mentioned, bar work is minimum wage and I wouldn’t count on getting tips at all.
I worked in various bars over 15 years and my experience is, you are a lot more likely to get tips in local bars where regulars / older people drink. Once they get to know you they offer give you £1 every time they buy a round. This can add £20 on to your shift if you pick a good one.
If you work in a trendy city centre bar, you tips will be little to none.
Tips are more common if you can find a job in a restaurant as a waiter, especially a more upmarket place.
Re finding a job, whenever I was looking for work, I just printed out a pile of CVs (keep it brief they really just want to see what relevant experience you have) and walked around handing them into places. Most times I got a call to come in for an interview the same day. |
