Counting calories using an app like MyFitnessPal really helps - you need to be disciplined with it though and put EVERYTHING you eat/drink through the day into it. Helps mentally as you can see when you're approaching your recommended daily calorific intake and should slow down. Eventually it'll create a mental barrier, that'll make you conscious of the calories you are consuming
