| Comment | In this respect the EU is a positive thing - migrants are coming from outside the EU, and the EU permits refugees to seek asylum in any EU country, not just the one they first enter, as well as having collaborative programs to share the strain. This is why Sweden and the UK have e.g. Syrian refugees crossing via land and sea.
If Italy weren't in the EU it would have to deal with them itself. |
