Raining. The weather in autumn is raining. Or windy. Or both. Or sometimes gloriously crisp and freezing. But mostly raining. Waterproof boots, lightweight very very waterproof jacket, bonus points for extra length and a good hood that doesn't blow off in the wind. Probably won't get bellow freezing but it could. Unlikely to get above about 15 degrees on an average day, most likely colder as the season progresses. All that said September can also be one of the best months for clear days and sometimes it stays slightly warmer into October too.
