At this point I'm almost certain that the council's strategy actually is to kill most of the retail in the city centre.

The plan seems to be that they want a wee bit of retail to only exist down Buchanan Street to St Enoch with a few specialist shops dotted around here and there, plus just over a handful of restaurants, pubs and clubs, then the rest of the centre will eventually be reclaimed for residential and hotels.

They seem content pushing retail out of the city centre and into retail parks. I don't think it's accidental at this stage.
