Older phones used to charge at 5 volts and 1 watt but most newer phones can fast charge and use 2 watt chargers for this reason...keep a couple spare in a drawer somewhere as they can come in handy if another charger/adapter dies...just cut off and solder the connector from died one onto spare charger.
