All the bars I mentioned would make a good manhattan as it is only two ingredients and just needs to be stirred correctly. Personally I would ask for it sweet as sweet vermouth really pairs particularly well with Rye. KG cafe serves then in a Nick & Nora glass so i would go there personally.

Although cocktails are more widespread in the US. On the whole, the quality is actually worse. Most bars use sweet and sour mix which is not fresh citrus and you cannot alter the balance of sour and sweet. Sweet and sour mix doesnt exist here. Also, Old Fashioneds from America are made with a different recipe that is not as good as the UK's.

Fixed measures only applies to drinks with less that 3 ingredients which is why you will see zombies on sale in the UK. A manhattan at any of the bars i mentioned will be over 50ml of 40% abv.

I suppose you're right, the 'Dive' bars i mentioned are just dive themed rather than the real american thing but I think you still get your fill of a similar vibe.
