Comment | Echoing previous comments, you're going to have a great time! On pets in flats, theres a current thread with good advice here (don't be put off by the title!): [https://www.reddit.com/r/glasgow/comments/f1p25y/trying\_to\_rent\_a\_place\_that\_allows\_dogs\_is\_murder/](https://www.reddit.com/r/glasgow/comments/f1p25y/trying_to_rent_a_place_that_allows_dogs_is_murder/) If you're used to Manhattan, you're best aiming for the West End as others have said. Everything is walkable, you're close to the city centre (and far enough away!) with nightlife / open mics on your doorstep. If you need to go further afield you'll never be more than a fiver or so in a taxi for most places. The south side is definitely lots more fun than it used to be and a bit of a pain to get to from most west places, but worth the occasional visit for some awesome bars and restaurants. (You'd be looking at ten pounds or more to get to Shawlands by Uber from the west end.) Parks all over Glasgow (being the dear green place) are brilliant, but not to be visited at night in general (in my opinion.) During the day, absolutely fine, but they're not well lit and can be a bit sketchy at night. Taking the dog for a walk around the west end at night will be absolutely fine though, but I'd recommend sticking to main streets just in case. Glasgow is a brilliant place to live but, like any big city, there can be shady characters wherever you go - keep your wits about you and never, EVER let someone put flyers down on top of your phone. Finally, on your anti-semitism question, as folk have said, it's not really a thing. The Jewish community are mainly focused around Giffnock, where the main synagogue is, and the south side in general, but you'll find the community across the city. Pretty much every big supermarket will have kosher food too. There's a bit of the Glasgow Necropolis that is a dedicated Jewish section that I think is really interesting and worth a visit when you're here: [https://jewish-heritage-europe.eu/2017/07/07/visiting-glasgows-major-jewish-sites/](https://jewish-heritage-europe.eu/2017/07/07/visiting-glasgows-major-jewish-sites/) The whole place is really interesting and well worth a visit. I used to use it at lunchtime at work for a hearty walk up a hill! If you want a pal when you arrive, drop me a message! More than happy to show you around in exchange for dog pets :) |
