What's wrong with really dark? Every onion soup I've ever had has been dark brown like oxo. It is made with beef stock after all.

Baxters French onion soup out the can is fairly decent, btw. Obviously not gourmet, but decent enough.

Best I've had in Glasgow, I think, would have been at Urban on St Vincent Place.
