At the end of the day it really has almost no effect on employment opportunities anymore. All that matters is your final degree mark and your actual techincal knowledge on your subject.

I currently work in the industry (worked in both electrical and systems) and I can tell you from experience that employers care a lot less about your degree and a lot more about your actual capability. I've been graduated about 10 years and can honestly say that during the huge amount of interviews I've attended that I've never had an interviewer ask which uni I went to.

I guess the above is anecdotal but I'm basically saying it doesn't matter too much where he goes as long as he's willing to put in the graft.
