Glasgow is a city with a huge student population. As such, there's a bit of a crush for rental housing in the areas surrounding the Universities - particularly the West End - and what's available tends to get snapped up quickly.

The resultant phenomena is one of pure unfettered Capitalistic greed, whereby landlords realising that they have a healthy market of people all vying for the same properties in the same areas all smash their prices up through the roof in an effort to get an extra point on their rental yield percentile.

I remember not too long ago renting a 1 bed flat in Finnieston for £450/pcm. Only 6 or 7 years ago. That same flat nowadays is probably £750/pcm, and I would be genuinely surprised if it were less.

So, to sum up - Glasgow has higher deposits and bloated rental prices because the city has been turned into a landlords wet dream and they're pounding that shit hard and raw. You're welcome.
