Yeah, proximity is one thing, but I think Pollok would have felt more isolated from the rest of Glasgow until urban sprawl forced Pollok to become contiguous with the rest of the south side. Before the M77 went in, there was basically a green belt of forest separating Pollok from everywhere else. So, again I would argue that a Pollok dialect (of sorts) exists and is unique from Glaswegian, again probably with more of an influence from Barrhead.
