If it's 250g or heavier you need to [register with the CAA as a pilot and operator](https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/). You need to pass an easy online test and pay the £9 registration fee. After, you need to stick ID labels with your operator ID on it on your drone.
The likelihood of being checked is very slim but it's worth avoiding any hassle by getting it done.
