You need to be careful with this area, as there are several clusters of Eastern European roma people living there, my friends had to move out from Craigie Street a couple of years back due to constant noise (people hanging out in their close, behaving loudly, all day and late in the night, small thefts, littering, other small things).
Apart from that the are is pretty safe - my other friends still live nearby and they don't complain.
As for the actual Strathbungo (Regent Park Sq and such) there is a good sense of community, people organize some festivals (today there is a Strathbungo Window Wonderland after dark!) and everything.
I used to live aross the park from Govanhill for many years, so I walked / cycled / rode trains and buses across Govanhill plenty of times, never had any problems with anything. |
