Glasgow is a relatively small city with not that many tall buildings outside of the city center and a lot of baked in history. All of those american college tropes dont happen here (even the ones that actually happen in the US), so you will be fine not drinking. Pubs are very different from american bars, and non drinkers can normally still enjoy themselves there. Glasgow University in particular is a great campus, being near Kelvingrove Park and byres road. Fair warning, the weather will prevent you from enjoying this to the fullest. If you love museums youre in luck, they are all free here. A lot of people call tour buses a tourist trap but I sincerely recommend taking a sunny day with a few friends to ride around the city in one. You might see some things you'l be interested in visiting later. Finally, even on a student budget the food scene in Glasgow is pretty great, so you wont be lacking for choice.

Oh, actually another thing: If you wanna make friends dont be right wing. This is a very leftist country and it will just simplify things if you fit in that regard.
