Comment | I mostly do two things: writing and driving trucks.
I used to be full-time freelance journalist, but the market is getting harder and harder, and with the demise of Polish press in the UK and with not being a native speaker in English my chances to make it back to full time are rather slim. My only regular gig right now is a column on Polish politics that I write for a Czech internet portal (and then put it on my blog in Polish and English).
I always wanted to be a writer, and recently I got a few short stories commissioned, I hope that will help me to get my book published when (if) I finish it ;-)
Since it's not hard to make a living that way, I drive trucks, usually for three days a week. I like driving, being out and about, listening to my podcasts or audiobooks. It's a nice job. The company I work for is not the best moneywise, but the atmosphere is pretty laid back, and I do go to some fantastic places (Argyl, Highlands and Islands) on occasions.
I used to be a police interpreter as well some years ago, but the rates dropped to such low level that it was actually not worth the hassle anymore. I still do translate some things once in a blue moon though, I am pretty proud of the translation of a poem I did last year - from Scots to Polish. |
