Unfortunately, buildings with a stairwell or a close are prime spots for addicts to shoot up. An addict recently died a few feet from my workplace's back door, which faced a close. He had chosen the spot presumably because it wasn't as exposed, it was also on a set of stone steps leading to someone's flat so would have been seen as a comfy spot.

There are really only two pieces of advice I can give, move away or be vigilant. Less affluent areas of Glasgow are magnets for addicts and even a small number who do drugs can cause a lot of issues. Obviously, moving away might not be viable. You won't have any luck getting Glasgow council to evict addicts either, but that's a discussion for another time.

The more feasible thing is to gather enough like minded neighbours and keep a vigilant watch for suspicious or unfamiliar individuals trying to enter the building. This kind of thing happens in the first place because people aren't vigilant or are afraid to get involved. The kind of antisocial people in question thrive on getting their way by being intimidating or obnoxious, counting on regular people being too afraid or well mannered.
