| Comment | Oh definitely, the money has to come from somewhere, but this extinguishes the argument that there are some things we just can't fundamentally do or afford, things that have always been laughed off as impossible in principle. We will also have demonstrated that it would have been substantially cheaper to invest in some of these safety nets and capacities ahead of time rather than only doing it when the crisis appeared.
It should also perhaps highlight that we really do need all these public services and, as has been recently demonstrated in Scotland, a huge number of people do actually support progressive tax increases to pay for it. |
