The previous owners may have blocked the chimney with an inflatable balloon thing to stop draughts. If so that’ll obviously need removed.
Getting a flue (flexible steel tube) put in is preferable as there’s then no chance of the fumes seeping through the chimney brickwork into other flats (and killing them) above you.
You’ll also need to use smokeless fuel if you’re living in the city.
Best bet would be to get a survey from a stove place and ultimately get a wood burning stove. I’ve got one and it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought. Could stare at it all night and because it’s enclosed your house doesn’t stink of smoke. |
