You do not need a fishing licence in Scotland. However all inland waters require a permit or permission to fish them, with a few exceptions (some canals etc). These are typically issued by angling associations or sporting estates, and can be very cheap or extremely expensive (especially for salmon).

Sea fishing doesn't require a licence or permit.

You don't need the landowner's permission to access land in the countryside.

Other local waters are the Black Cart, White Cart, and Gryffe. There are numerous commercial stillwaters scattered around the region too.
