East Kilbride is a new town: think Milton Keynes but with worse weather - it's much higher and exposed than the rest of Glasgow. If you're willing to commute, there are much nicer areas in East Renfrewshire (top schools, very middle class) or the south side of Glasgow (trendy, pretty, lots of amenities, lively).
