| Comment | It's not about the whole country carrying out drills. Drills aren't required for social distancing, but again mass influx of people with respiratory problems was predicted and drills could have been carried out for that, and supplies stockpiled.
As things stand PPE is in short supply for key workers, nobody is quite sure who key workers are and aren't, and ventilator procurement contracts have been given to inexperienced supporters of the prevailing political ideology, which should be a national scandal but apparently isn't. The government pissed about and joked about shaking hands while this was coming towards us like a tidal wave.
And no, we can't do anything about the origins of any disease, but we can control how we respond when it gets here. There have been many, many drills, meetings and plans made for terrorist attacks, you'd better believe this was just as real a threat.
