That's definitely not. Jackpot. You'll be awarded 3 times the deposit in an open and shut court case. I had to take a landlord to court for the same reason before - the day before the court case they settled for the full amount (3 x the original deposit).

Speak to a solicitor if possible, but at least write to the landlord and advise her that you'll be taking action regarding the deposit (and possibly the illegal 6 month contract - but double check that first). It'll probably scare her into giving you your full deposit back at least, even if you can't be arsed going all the way with court etc.

Only other advice I'd have would be move out asap. A shitty landlord will always be shit, best to get away from them. Especially one who, as this lady seems to be, is a liar.
