If I had to put my finger on one it would be Mahdawi as a columnist, and I think their sacrifice of Corbyn to promote Swinson would have been comical in a parallel universe. I doubt it made much difference to the outcome in the end. I think, unfortunately, that a great deal of the rubbish is there instead of the investigative stuff, I'm fully aware of why that is and I fought long and hard with myself before I decided not to renew when my card expired. It's maybe improved somewhat recently but I felt for a long while like I couldn't open the app without a poorly written handwringer from some blogger or journalism postgrad telling me why I was guilty of whatever the cause célebrè was for that moment. And yes, I'm in the demographic to which they were generally referring.
Now I said it's turned into a left wing shitrag, and was instantly accused of being a flute-tooting racist who should fuck off back to his lodge, or whatever it was. It's more to do with the polarisation of discourse in general I suppose, but I really feel like it's become far more cliquey and tribal than it used to be, likely with the death of alternative left-leaning papers. |
