| Comment | So I can get by listening to Afrikaans knowing the mother language. Afrikaans is (sorry to any Afrikaners) akin time learning rural Dutch from the 18th century, with a few loan words. Most of the modifications came under British rule, further simplifying it for you, or are loans from local languages (which you’re not likely to know).
