I think your last sentence might be the key point.

But just because the media distorts this stuff, 10 year olds don't get to make irreversible decisions about this stuff. The most the NHS will do is talking therapy and MAYBE puberty blockers (if they jump through lots of hoops, do individual and family therapy, group work etc.). Actual gender reassignment (testosterone or estrogen, any kind of surgery) happens after 17.
